AAF Project Engineer Trainer-TA

Support the provision of functional facilities to support the AAF.  Provide guidance and mentoring in project management, contract observance/surveillance, and facilities maintenance to support the AAF.  Interface with Afghan Air Force engineer leaders to coordinate, prioritize, plan and schedule required work to be supported by the facility maintenance Contractor.  Train the Afghan engineer leaders to perform maintenance, repair planning and oversight functions.  Perform annual reviews of AAF Engineering manning and equipment allocations as well as Afghan Engineering Job Descriptions.  Provide input to annual Tashkil reviews to improve engineering capabilities within the AAF.  Develop and foster relationships with the AAF to enable successful training outcomes for facility sustainment and management.  Develop weekly training goals that meet the guidance established by the TAAC-Air Engineering Director to make the AAF engineering organizations professional, capable, and sustainable.  Facilitate and execute mobile advising sessions to assist AAF Engineering traveling to the provinces as necessary.   As Coalition security and policies allow, meet and train AAF facilities managers and/or other applicable organizations and persons at least 4 times a week for at least 1 hour or IAW current 438 AEW/TAAC-Air advising policies and directions.  Develop and foster relationships with the AAF to liaise between the 438 AEW/TAAC-Air and the AAF on engineering issues. 


  • Requires an engineering professional with a minimum of a four-year Engineering Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited College or University. 
  • Have at least five years of experience in project management. 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering work experience including project development, project management, training/course development, and facility/infrastructure sustainment, restorations and modernization (SRM) plan development.
  • Have demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and have an effective support and reach back capability to provide timely support and assistance.  Effective reach back support is defined as a 24-hour response for a request for support
  • Must be a US Citizen 
  • Possess good written and verbal communications skills, as well as good interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be able to pass CENTCOM medical, dental and other CRC-related deployment requirements from CRC at Ft. Bliss, TX.    
  • Must continue to maintain CENTCOM Mod 13 and other deployment-related requirements for the Afghanistan theater of operations     
  • Must be able to receive and maintain a current/active Afghanistan visa 
  • Must be in possession of and maintain an appropriate-level current/active security clearance with eligibility to receive/maintain a NATO clearance for the duration of the deployment      
  • Must be willing to work and live in austere and hostile environments in Afghanistan, and understanding of the possibility to be further assigned to any location in Afghanistan, as allowed by the contract 
  • Must be willing and able to travel outside of protected areas via military convoys or MILAIR, and wear protective clothing and equipment, as required.  Force protection will be provided by authorized sources.   
  • Must have the demonstrated ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing 
  • Must comply with all theater command policies, regulations, and General Orders 


  • Previous OCONUS experience. (Prefer Afghanistan or Iraq)
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or related area
  • 10 years’ experience in engineering or related area
  • Prefer experience on Military BN/BDE staff and understand the MDMP concept
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret and NATO security clearance.
