ALS Lab Manager

  • Manage a staff of 5-6 e-Discovery team members located in a client-site eDiscovery laboratory.
  • Responsible for staff scheduling.
  • Assessing the requirements of each task as they are received and assigning the tasks to the appropriate team member based on assessment.
  • Assignment of work outside of standard tasks.
  • Ensure deadlines are met.
  • Create and maintain progress reports.
  • Maintain Task Tracker which tracks basic statistics of each task performed by the Lab.
  • Prepare and deliver “On-Demand” reports to COR as requested.
  • Responsible for providing web hosting support for unsupported cases.
  • Primarily ensure timely and accurate completion of Lab tasks.
  • Analyze, develop and implement processing approaches for electronic files and other related services based on best practices and applicable ESI specifications.
  • Advise and consult with DOJ attorneys, paralegals and case managers on all phases of eDiscovery, including, but not limited to, Data Collection, Processing, Review, Analytics and Production.
  • Updating, drafting and implementing of Standard Operating Procedures for team.
  • Preform Conflict of Interest checks on all new matters; prepare cost estimates for any portion of a matter that would require sourcing work outside of the Lab.
  • Responsible for ensuring incoming productions are made pursuant to the applicable ESI specifications and if deficiencies are found, provide detailed notice of deficiencies to case attorney.
  • Responsible for keeping the COR informed on activities in the Lab, such as deadlines, technical challenges, complex matters, availability of resources to complete work.
  • Participate in various weekly meetings, such as with all CORs or other functional areas to provide overview of weekly activities.
  • Manage non-standard requests such as large blowback or scanning requests that may require the enlistment of a subcontractor.

Additional responsibilities would include:

  • Review and approvals of staff time-sheets.
  • Management of team time off schedule.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving subcontractor invoicing and preparing back up for customer invoices.
  • Tracking of employee’s weekly activities to report to client

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.
  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • At least 4+ years’ experience in management/supervisory level, including proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully interact with clients and attorneys.
  • At least 4+ years managing teams of 5+ people as direct reports, to include performance reviews, interviewing, onboarding, timesheet review/approval.
  • Requires expert knowledge of the litigation discovery process, and the EDRM workflow.   
  • At least eight years of experience performing eDiscovery roles including, but not limited to, eDiscovery Project Management, electronic files processing (EFP), image and data file conversion, data culling using review tools, quality assurance, database loads and retrieval, and data analysis and review. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Need to be proactive, organized and detail oriented.
  • In-depth workspace administrative knowledge and experience using Relativity required.
  • Must be willing to work on a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Team player willing to collaborate and jump in to help when needed.

Preferred Skills:

  • 4+ years commercial or law firm litigation support experience highly desired.
  • RCA certification and other eDiscovery certifications preferred.
  • Brainspace Analyst certification preferred.
  • Experience with structured and conceptual analytics preferred.
  • Hands on experience with LAW highly desired.
  • Law degree, advanced technical certification, or other pertinent graduate degree preferred.
  • Hands on experience with litigation support tools such as LAW, IPRO, Concordance, MS Office Suite, and LiveNote highly valued.
