Customs Compliance Technician

The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission is to provide Naval Warfare Centers, the Fleet, and other customers with accurate undersea, surface, and in-air three-dimensional tracking data and other unique Atlantic test facilities.  In support of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments.

Responsible for proper filing of US Department of Homeland Security, and Customs and Border Protection documentation for cargo shipments AUTEC on the AUTEC project.


  • Accurately prepare manifests, bill of ladings, hazard declarations and associated documents.
  • Prepare all customs documents for incoming and out-going Household Goods (HHG) for both Navy and contractor personnel, including government shipping documents for cargo shipments
  • Prepares air and marine cargo declarations, including all related documents.
  • Operate Government cargo vehicles, on and off base.
  • Courier of U.S. Mail between the base and airport.
  • Assist in warehouse with barge processing, and cargo delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Associates degree preferred.
  • 2 years related experience working in warehouse or shipping & receiving operational environment required.
  • Must obtain in International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG), International Air Transportation Association (IATA), and Title 49 CFR – Transportation certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Must obtain AMMO-62 certification within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of Trade Tech software for aircraft manifesting and Automated Manifest System (AMS) linking to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) systems.
  • Experience in computerized manifesting for import/export operations and load planning preferred.
  • Must be detail orientated.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have a good work ethic, and people skills to interact with project customers and other personnel.
  • Computer literate, proficient with MS Office and full Adobe Acrobat, ability to learn proprietary software
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to accommodate ever changing aircraft and barge arrivals
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
  • This position requires a U.S. Government security clearance. Must be U.S. citizen.
  • A valid US Passport and Driver’s License is required.
