Electronics Technician II (In-water)

The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission is to provide Naval Warfare Centers, the Fleet, and other customers with accurate undersea, surface, and in-air three-dimensional tracking data and other unique Atlantic test facilities.  In support of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments.

Responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, testing and operating the In-water Tracking Systems in support of AUTEC range and Navy ship requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the In-water Tracking Systems and monitor their performance during real-time test operations.
  • Perform detailed testing to diagnose causes of equipment malfunction.
  • Disassemble components to trace circuit continuity through states of equipment.
  • Repair circuit wiring and replace faulty major components and individual components.
  • Perform authorized modification and preventative maintenance.
  • Solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturer’s manuals and similar documents.
  • Perform final testing of equipment.
  • Works shifts as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A.S. degree in a related field required or equivalent military experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in electronics installation.
  • Advanced digital and analog troubleshooting skills.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds of equipment. Reach above shoulders and climb using legs and arms to perform tasks.
  • Ability to distinguish colors to perform technical tasks.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
  • A valid US Passport and Driver’s License is required.
