Engineering Technician III

Duties and Functions:

The Chief Engineer is directly responsible to the Master for the proper operation and maintenance of all electrical and mechanical equipment on the ship and, as required its tow.  The assistant engineer and the QMED personnel fall under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer.

  • They will be responsible and accountable for all mechanical and electrical equipment including the engine room tools and equipment.
  • They are responsible to ensure proper operations of all safety related equipment.
  • They are responsible to oversee the transfer of necessary fuel, water, and lube oil to the ship and ensure the transfer is conducted in accordance with appropriate Coast Guard regulations.
  • They are responsible to ensure the completion of the daily engine/maintenance log.
  • Travel Required up to 120 days a year
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Working with Hazards materials, oils, solvents, Jp5, fuels, etc.
  • 6 years of experience performing the stated functions
    • Must Possess the appropriate Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
  • General knowledge of boat operations, mechanical and electrical operating system.
  • Experience with driving pickup trucks with trailers on the road and in enclosed or limited spaces.
  • All candidates will be required to pass a Drug Screening.
  • Ability to obtain a passport.
  • Possess valid state driver’s license, Commercial Driver License is a plus.   
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency

    Work Conditions:
    Conditions will vary.  Most work performed at sea in varying weather conditions.  Work will include Standing Navigational watch for a min of 8 hours per day, which will include standing and the Monitoring of radio communications, conversing with US Naval Ships, and monitoring all radar contacts. Other duties will include at times, assisting the Deck Crew in the handling of tag lines, launching and recovering of 8 meter RHIB boats and other types of craft used for marine targets. Working on deck may be in adverse weather condition and may require late working hours at times. Other responsibilities may include procurement, some clerical duties, tracking and maintaining the ships safety equipment condition and expiration dates. May occasionally be required to lift objects whose weight exceeds 50 pounds. Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus

    Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and hold a Top Secret Clearance.

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of technical school, trade school, or advanced armed services technical school curriculum or course in electricity, electronics, avionics, mechanics, armaments/ordnance, or engineering technology; or completion of at least 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of courses at an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical curriculum
