GCPSU Surveillance Reconnaissance Course (SRC) Instructor-ASSF

Duty Description: As a Surveillance Reconnaissance Course (SRC) Instructor, conduct (surveillance/reconnaissance) training in support of National Mission Unit (NMU) SR Teams and select Province Special Units (PSU) in order to provide capacity and capability to Afghan special policing forces. Conduct training in accordance with an approved MoI Program of Instruction POI) based on Afghan doctrine and decrees. Serve as an extension of the General Command of Police Special Unit (GCPSU) Special Operations Advisor Group (SOAG) and the onsite (NATO) Special Operations Advisor Team (SOAT) that provides support to the SRC Team. Coordinate training actions and requirements with the GCPSU J7/LNO in the GCPSU SOAG HQs. As required and directed, augment and/or provide intelligence support to PAE SRTs, NMU J2s, or PSU J2s. Coordinate any and all Tactical Site Exploitation (TSE) requirements needed during the SRC through the PAE TSE MTT and the J7/LNO. Possess an understanding and knowledge regarding Warrant Based Targeting (WBT), TSE, Human Intelligence (HUMINT), Source Operations, Tactical Questioning, Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB), threat diagram, and all source intelligence.

Required Hours:
Work may include nights, holidays, and weekends on short notice. Standard will be to conduct training sixty hours per week while OCONUS.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Serve as a member (an extension) of the GCPSU SOAG in support of NATO forces in providing specialty training to Afghan special policing forces.
  • Lead instructors in support of the GCPSU SOAG’s efforts in professionalizing a special operations policing force in surveillance and reconnaissance methods and procedures in order to build capacity and capability in NMUs and select PSUs.
  • Coordinate with NMU/PSU J2s for Surveillance Reconnaissance training in support of NMU SRTs and PSUs; NMUs are authorized SRTs in accordance with Tables of Organization and Equipment (known as Afghan Tashkils), select PSUs that receive TAAM coverage provide non-Tashkil personnel as an additional duty to provide SR capability to the organization.
  • Training must be in accordance with approved Afghan MoI Doctrine and Decrees; adjustments to training must be coordinated with the GCPSU SOAG and the Special Operations Advisor Team (SOAT) that provides support to the SRC.
  • As required, augment and/or provide intelligence support to SRTs, NMU J2s, or PSU J2s.
  • Coordinate with the TSE MTT for site exploitation capability in the SRC curriculum as required/directed.
  • Competent and knowledgeable in HUMINT, ASOM, IPB, WBT, counter intelligence, counter crime, and all source intelligence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
  • Capable of building and maintaining positive relations and rapport with teammates, the client (US, NATO, and Troop Contributing Nation military forces), and Afghan counterparts.
  • Comprehension and familiarization of the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) and capable of relating MDMP to the Afghan cipher process.
  • Provide required reports and documentation to Program Management.  
  • Able to work and live in austere and hostile environments in Afghanistan, and understanding of the possibility to be further assigned to any location in Afghanistan, as allowed by the contract. 
  • Willing and able to travel outside of protected areas via military convoys or MILAIR, and wear protective clothing and equipment, as required.  Force protection will be provided by authorized sources.   
  • Must have the demonstrated ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing. 
  • Must comply with all theater command policies, regulations, and General Orders.
  • Understand the Theater ROE (Rules of Engagement). 
  • Additional duties, responsibilities, and requirements as identified by program management.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have six (6) years of experience teaching techniques of planning, coordination, execution, and post-mission exploitation of intelligence; intelligence handling and documentation procedures; and post-mission analysis and dissemination procedures.
  • Have one (1) year experience with a Partnered Nation Security Force performing a similar mission.
  • At least one (1) year of combat/deployment experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen. 
  • Able to pass CENTCOM medical, dental and other CRC-related deployment requirements from CRC at Ft. Bliss, TX.    
  • Must continue to maintain CENTCOM Mod 13 and other deployment-related requirements for the Afghanistan theater of operations.     
  • Able to receive and maintain a current/active Afghanistan visa. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. 

    Desired Qualifications: 

  • If no prior military experience, possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and six (6) years of experience.
  • Previous experience working with coalition forces, NATO, or other Troop Contributing Nations.
  • Previous experience teaching/instructing military or policing forces.
  • Familiarization with the Afghan/MoI GCPSU structure/organization, mission, and cipher process.
  • Understanding of the NATO and Resolute Support structure and mission.
  • 10 years’ military and/or contracting experience in intelligence/combat arms. 
  • Experience on Military BDE staff (or higher) and understand the MDMP concept.


Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

  • Include but are not limited to the wear of body armor and helmet Personal Protective Gear, unassisted lifting and carrying of duffle bags not exceed the weight of 70 lbs. per piece, and the unassisted movement over uneven terrain.
  • Must be willing to work and live in Afghanistan with an understanding that there could be further assignments to any location in Afghanistan based upon the needs of the U.S. Government, to include hostile and austere areas.
  • Must be able to attend and pass USG deployment requirements at CONUS Replacement Center (CRC), Fort Bliss, Texas or equivalent location.
  • Must meet the medical requirements for the position being offered as determined by a pre-employment medical screening and in accordance with published CRC and USCENTCOM medical deployment standards.
  • Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to eight (8) hours per day and sit for up to three (3) hours per day.
  • Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Employee will be required to work and live in a potentially hostile environment, at remote locations, and under austere conditions.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, under extreme weather conditions, within a hostile environment.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from aircraft, hostile fire, and other acts of aggression associated with this region.
  • Contractor personnel shall comply with all theater command policies, regulations, and General Orders. All tours are unaccompanied.
  • Refrain from using alcohol/illegal and non-prescription substances—abide by CENTCOM’s General Order #1.


Security Clearance: An active DoD Secret Security clearance is required in order to handle classified material and to work in a controlled area on a daily basis in support of the client.
