General Maintenance Technician



BASIC FUNCTION SUMMARY

* Performs a wide variety of maintenance and repair to include carpentry, basic sheet metal, basic electrical, basic plumbing, basic masonry, and basic lock repair and basic HAVC.

* Works on CAMO teams or alone to respond to maintenance and repair of dormitories, dining facilities, administrative facilities, classrooms, etc.

* May be assigned to operate the Do-It -Now or Den truck, providing emergency response.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

* Multi-skilled craftsman that performs carpentry, electrical, plumbing, sheet metal, and basic lock repair to include panic hardware. Expected to be a well-rounded handyman capable of performing numerous types of repairs to base facilities alone or as part of a work team or CAMO crew.

* Carpentry duties will be a full range to include structural and finish carpentry, installation of wallboard, doors, windows, roofing material, flooring, flashings, siding, tile, masonry, cabinetry, vinyl and wood trim, builder's hardware, etc.

* Electrical tasks are to be basic, replacing electric light fixtures, receptacles, switches, etc. More chal-lenging tasks will be performed by an electrician. No work will be performed on "hot" electrical systems.

* Plumbing tasks are to be basic; replacing flush valves, faucets, valves, repairing copper or plastic pipe, replacing garbage disposals, clearing clogged drains, unstopping commodes, etc. Basic maintenance and repair of interior facilities domestic water supply drain lines and fixtures. Water heaters under 100 gal and or without electronic controls will be maintained and repaired.

* Masonry work includes installing, repairing, patching concrete, ceramic tile, masonry units, etc. Concrete work may include pouring sidewalks, footings, slabs, etc.

* HVAC tasks are to be basic; replacing belts, filters valves, repairing copper, PVC, all types of metal pipe, clearing clogged drains. Power washing outside coils and HVAC systems. Repair/replace water heaters with or without electronic controls. Repair/replace air compressors, etc.

* May make minor repairs to carpet or wall coverings.

* May perform minor touch up painting.

* May perform minor sheet metal work. May perform installation and repair of flex duct lines.

* May be called on to perform stand by duties after normal duty hours and on weekends and holidays.

* Other duties as assigned in support of the mission.



QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

* Three (3) years experience in the building trades is mandatory.

* Must possess excellent oral, written, and communication skills.

* Must have the ability to address a wide variety of audiences.

* Must have demonstrated a strong attention to detail and the ability to work on multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

* Must have the ability to deal with the customer and company employees in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.

* Must have the ability to work extended periods of times on a computer. Must read, write, speak, and understand English.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Physical Demands:

This classification's activities range from an office environment with extensive sitting demands to a field environment with extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and

walking demands. Employee may occasionally be required to lift objects whose weight exceeds 30 pounds. Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment:

The diversity of work conditions may range from an office environment where there are little or no physical demands to a field environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, precipitation, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. Employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards. Employee may be required to work a flexible work schedule and alternating work days to meet mission and customer requirements.



LICENSING, CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

* Valid State Driver's License

* HVAC, EPA CFC Universal certification license highly desired.

* Commercial refrigeration license highly desired

* Must be able to qualify for a SECRET security clearance, if required.
