IoT Solution Architect

IoT (Internet of Things) Solution Architect supporting a Smart Capabilities initiative as lead to architect, design and provide technical strategy and business cases for PAE’s shift to Smart Capabilities in Logistics, Maintenance, and Base Operations Support.
Strong background working with sensors/ smart devices, data collection and analysis, edge computing, integration of the different elements, and analytics all using industry standard tools and methods

Must be able to work and collaborate with other architects, developers/ engineers, business analysts and program managers to develop, maintain and improve the overall architecture of the SMART platform and solution.
 

  • Be the subject matter expert in communication and IOT protocols
  • Wireless Edge Access Protocols: Wifi, Cellular, Bluetooth, RFID
  • Drive standards in the areas of device provisioning, remote software upgrades, and remote access
  • Work with device software engineers to identity the telemetry data ingestion strategy taking into account computing power and the business value of the data
  • Create the Edge computing strategy to optimize the processing of critical data signals within DoD and other government network environments prior to transmission to the cloud
  • Partner across multiple operating segments including application development and Cybersecurity to realize the IoT vision
  • Collaborate to define and deliver standard IoT platform(s)
  • Partner with the business unit organizations to understand their IoT needs, help prioritize investments, develop use cases, generate processes, and develop overall solution requirements including application definition, integration, security, and system configurations
  • Provide technical and thought leadership for the development and integration of new IoT solutions.
  • Provide design and architecture for securing of Industrial Internet of Things, including both the best practice and architecture of deploying factory automation, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and sensor networks as well as the best practice of developing architectures to securely connect IIoT/IoT to enterprise and cloud applications
  • Engage customer to assist in engineering a secure solution in accordance with policies, procedures, standards and best practices.
  • Conduct threat analysis and modeling, defines security requirements, analyzes and tests the environment against the requirements, recommends remediation for identified risks, documents the security posture of the environment, including unmitigated risks.
  • Conduct New Product Assessments - Performing a security analysis of Open Source, Software as a Service (SaaS) and COTS solutions to determine the viability of installing them in the customer computing environment. 
  • Act as a representative of the company at industry events and meetings
  • Interpret customer requirements - speaking with customers to understand, anticipate and meet their needs
  • Maintain high degree of technical knowledge to allow in-depth technical presentations and discussions with customers.
  • Provide technical writing for Smart solutions in development of proposals.
  • Partner with vendors to drive the “Edge” IoT development strategy and architecture

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in IT or related Engineer field is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of practical work experience in an IoT/IIoT engineering required.
  • Knowledge of software development or engineering processes is desired.
  • Knowledge of cyber security requirements for operating in DoD and other government network / physical security environments required.
  • Experience leading, managing, and delivering IoT projects is required.
  • Demonstrable project experience using cutting-edge IoT technologies such as Microsoft Azure IoT, Azure edge runtime, PTC’s Thingworx, or other open source technologies is required.
  • Subject matter expertise in IoT protocols is required.
  • Subject matter expertise in Wireless Edge Access Protocols (WAN, LAN, PAN, Mesh) is required.
  • Ability to manage the low-level details of a project while understanding the bigger picture of the IoT strategy is required.
  • With little supervision, must be able to define, shape, and drive projects to completion while effectively collaborating strategically with others is required.
  • This position can sit in Arlington VA, Fort Worth TX, or remote if near major airport hub and able to travel up to 60% domestic and international travel.
  • Strong experience with cloud environment and associated storage capabilities desired.
  • Good knowledge of Big Data querying tools is desired.
  • Ideally, experience working with IoT type initiatives at a large scale is desired.
