Lead Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
  • Is designated the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for the facility.
  • Operates to the best possible standards providing uninterrupted operation.
  • Monitors wastewater plant systems, ancillary equipment and the chemical composition of the influent, effluent and internal process streams; makes necessary adjustments to ensure operation is within established guidelines.
  • Responds to unscheduled equipment or process failures.
  • Is “on call” for the ability to make decisions and initiate actions regarding the operation of the wastewater plant in a timely manner.
  • Collects and analyzes raw waste, performs chemical, biological and physical analysis and maintains a thorough knowledge of the composition of the influent, effluent and internal process streams.
  • Monitors wastewater effluent making adjustments as necessary to ensure effluent quality standards are met or exceeded.
  • Oversees or performs all laboratory testing.
  • Accountable for the proper operation and maintenance of the wastewater plant for compliance with applicable regulations and/or permit requirements, including monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Maintains cleanliness of wastewater plant.
  • Ensures efficient and economical operation of station wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Completes maintenance records; maintains laboratory and operating logbooks and databases as required.
  • Maintains control of plant tools, manuals, repair parts, assemblies and consumables. Maintains inventory accuracy at 98% or better.
  • Advises the Power & Water Supervisor of the status of water production equipment and systems. Coordinates in ordering repair and/or spare parts, maintenance parts, assemblies and consumables.
  • Willingness to work a rotating shift; day, swing or night shift
  • Performs duties in support of division metrics (as provided by supervisor).
  • Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position’s work activities.
  • Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate legal documentation.
  • Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments.
  • Performs other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Colorado Class “B” Certification (or other states’ equivalent) required.
  • Minimum two years of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Operator required.
  • Experience working in an Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment Plant required.
  • Supervisor or Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) experience is preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.
  • Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.
  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
  • US citizenship or Permanent US Resident status is required.
