Legal Assistant/Litigation Support Tech

  • Provide information system analysis, data analysis, research, word processing and administrative assistance to AUSAs.
  • Works with AUSAs, investigators, federal agents and support staffs to determine the most effective data management strategy to meet litigation needs.
  • Works with Automated Litigation Support unit staff and Information Technology staff to diagnose and resolve litigation support computer system problems, provide user support to other litigation support personnel, and customize databases and programs modified to meet individual user needs.
  • Manage and operate a variety of computer hardware such as printers, plotters, audio-visual devises, and other analog and digital equipment to conceptualize exhibits and complete special presentation projects.
  • Establish and maintain databases for managing, processing, sorting, indexing, abstracting and coordinating large volumes of data.
  • Assure documents are organized for efficient automated storage and retrieval by defining data file search criteria and coding fields.
  • May perform a range of tasks including, but not limited, to the preparation of narrative summaries, charts, tables, graphs, or other visual aids to be used at motion hearing, trials and sentencing hearings Assists in production of discovery by scan ng, copying, uploading electronic data and creating document productions from evidence repositories.
  • Understand and apply various guidelines at the Federal, State and local level for e-Discovery processing.
  • Prepares computerized trial-presentation programs; assists trial teams with creation and presentation of demonstrative evidence during trial, to include the preparation of PowerPoint slides, charts, tables, graphs, or other large-format graphic design visual aids to be used at trial. 
  • Determine the placement and appearance of visual materials that will most effectively convey to information to the court, jury and/or witnesses. 
  • Performs work that involves communication through visual means; assists with technology in the courtroom, ensure computers and A/V equipment is in place in courtrooms and grand jury sessions.
  • Prepares detailed reports, making clear conclusions regarding assigned subject matter.
  • Scans hardcopy documents to include unitizing and the objective and subjective coding of documents.
  • May conduct special studies and cooperates with other departments in the preparation of analyses.
  • Additional tasks, duties and administrative/legal responsibilities may be included that will require similar knowledge, education and experience to assist in other areas of the office.
  • Work and interact professionally and effectively with all levels of staff.

  • Ability to meet established deadlines and work as a team player in a professional office.

  • Skill in meeting and dealing with people in a courteous and tactful manner.


  • Must be able to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Undergraduate Degree preferred.
  • Paralegal Certificate Required and (5) Five Years of related experience legal required.
  • Experience working with Databases and litigation support applications.
  • Has experience with MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Access or other databases, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and graphics design software (such as Adobe Photoshop or SmartDraw) desired.
  • Contractor must have critical thinking skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, good attention to detail and organizational skills, and the ability to deliver highest quality work under pressure and changing deadlines.
  • Familiarity with document management systems, trial presentation soft ware, hardware, and graphics applications and knowledge of software used by the USAO (or the ability to acquire knowledge about the USAO's computer systems). 
  • Data analysis knowledge and skills, including experience or capabilities in some or all of the following special skill areas: algorithms, Big Data, data mining, database design and management  documentation. 
  • Experience with PowerPoint and other soft ware applications used in the creation of presentations and visual aids. 
  • Ability to evaluate existing procedures, processing techniques, models, and/or systems related to litigation support data management problems or issues that would require a report and recommended solutions.
