Science Mentorship Coordinator

In support of the US Government’s Department of Defense (DOD) Threat Reduction Agency’s (DTRA) Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP). PAE is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the BTRP Ukraine Science Mentorship Coordinator. The Science Mentorship Coordinator (SMC) is the lead facilitator of the BTRP Science Mentorship Program. The SMC oversees the Science Writing and Mentorship program, providing coordination and guidance, ensuring that recipients are paired with an advisor or mentor who meets their specific scientific needs in support of the BTRP Ukraine project. The SMC reports directly to the Science and Training Manager and works with the Project Team to facilitate integration, resources, and cost-effective solutions for BTRP efforts. 

Duties

  • Identifying individuals who would make good mentors. Coordinators interview mentor candidates to find those who possess traits such as knowledge of an organization and the ability to instruct others. They then pair each mentor with a mentee and provide mentors with guidance concerning what to teach mentees. Mentor coordinators will provide mentors with a list of goals that the mentor and mentee should accomplish throughout the program
  • Monitor and evaluating mentor/mentee relationships. Coordinators may monitor these relationships through verbal communications, such as face-to-face or over-the-phone conversations. Indirect contact may include reviewing progress reports written by mentors.
  • Coordinators evaluate each mentor/mentee pair to determine if any changes must be made, such as reassigning the mentor or mentee.
  • Writes reports about the success rates or failures of current mentorship efforts, including lessons learned and recommendation of changes to improve future mentoring
  • Document hours put in by mentors
  • Will assist in the coordination of trainings of recipient stakeholder personnel. Planning coordination is performed with the stakeholders, subcontractors (training centers, rented facilities) and PAE trainers and subject matter experts in written and verbal form in English, Ukrainian and Russian
  • The position involves extensive reporting and documentation of activities with a focus on continued improvement
  • May prepare mentorship accounting documentation and performs other mentorship responsibilities as assigned support of the BTRP Science Writing and Mentorship Program

Skills

  • Communications skills – Good verbal and written communications skills for interaction with project teams
  • Must demonstrate Multi-tasking ability (Prioritize, Organize, and Schedule Work)
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail, interpersonal skills and ability to cope with moderate to high levels of stress
  • Experience in implementing Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Required Qualifications

  • An accredited degree in Public Health, life sciences, management or equivalent experience in functional areas and 5+ experiences in a (corporate or academic) environment
  • 3+ years of experience in developing, managing, and revising curricula
  • Communication – Must be able to evaluate effective and ineffective techniques and clearly identify where deficiencies exist and propose corrective actions
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse workforce
  • Experience with short- and long-term project execution while meeting critical deadlines
  • Must be a critical thinker and can train others in critical thinking
  • Native Ukrainian (Professional)
    • Proficient in the English Language both oral and written
    • Proficient in the Russian Language both verbal and written

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D., Master's/ Medical degree in Life Science
  • Internationally published author in a peer-reviewed professional journal
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse workforce
  • Experience with short- and long-term project execution
  • Experience in International Science Mentorship and Training in the European Union, Ukraine, or the Former Soviet Union
  • Experience in grantsmanship within the Ukrainian and/or EU system
  • Experience with Ukrainian funded research awards
