Senior Paralegal

  • Will serve as the primary point of contact to receive, track, respond to, and document complaint calls and emails regarding sexual harassment in the housing context.  
  • Conduct factual and legal research and provide written analyses to address issues pertaining to the Section’s rule making, coordination, or technical assistance responsibilities.  
  • Performs complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence.  
  • May require travel for trial support.  Expected to become very familiar Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance. Current Public Trust clearance preferred.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) strongly preferred.  Will consider candidate with extensive litigation support experience coupled with a Paralegal Certificate.  
  • Spanish language skills preferred, but not required.
  • Pleasant phone manner and the ability to interview potentially aggrieved persons about traumatic experiences in a professional, thorough, and sensitive manner is critical.  
  • Candidate must be able to perform detailed searches of court records and other public records utilizing online databases and services such as LexisNexis.  
  • Familiarity with methods for researching people, property ownership, and/or business entities is preferable and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as Lexis, Westlaw.  
  • Travel may be required.
  • This position places a premium on the ability to write well.  
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures and legal resources.  
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.  
  • Previous experience working with federal civil rights statutes.
