System Administrator II


  • Applies systems analysis techniques and advanced level computing and network support.
  • Provides installation, testing, repair, and troubleshooting for stand-alone systems, systems linked to networks, and other related systems and equipment.
  • Analyzes and determines cause of malfunctions related to hardware, software, or environment and initiates corrective action.
  • Evaluates potential IA security risks and takes corrective action to make the computing environment more secure.
  • Maintain local PAE network infrastructure and other PAE owned equipment/software.


  • Install, test, maintain, and upgrade computer systems and related equipment to ensure optimal performance, configure operating systems, standard and other application software programs in accordance with Air Force NIPRNet Policy GPO.
  • Uses established fact-finding approaches, knowledge of pertinent work processes and procedures, and familiarity with related system software and computer equipment.
  • Research routine user problems and solve them by modifying the existing system when the solutions follow clear precedents.
  • Provide scripting or light programming for systems-related projects and guide/instruct lower level techs who assist in specific assignments.
  • Provide troubleshooting through multiple assigned helpdesk ticketing systems.
  • Assist System Administrator Supervisor in managing/maintaining user, group and organizational mailbox accounts for the Kirtland AFB network (unclassified/classified); establish measures to control access to network resources based on validated clearances, access approval and need to know.
  • Provide system administration for the Automated Civil Engineer Systems (ACES), follow-on systems, such as, NexGen IT, and/or equivalent Air Force computer software/systems necessary to Civil Engineering functions; provide technical support of these systems under the guidance of the PMO.
  • Perform following roles as appointed:
  • Primary Functional System Administrator/Cybersecurity Liaison.  Oversee the Computer Security (COMPUSEC) program and ensure compliance with USAF directives and regulations governing physical and operational security.
  • Primary Unit Software License Manager (USLM).  Perform inventory control of all software, both PAE and government.
  • Alternate Property Custodian.  Perform inventory control of Automated Data Processing Equipment (ADPE), both PAE and government owned.
  • Primary Telecommunications Control Officer (TCO).
  • Provide system administration duties and support of the 377 MSG/CE official SharePoint site.
  • Provide basic information management training for all CE functional users as required to ensure user operability.
  • Provide technical support for the 377 ABW Emergency Operations Center and CE Unit Control Center and Emergency Support Function (ESF) members during exercises and real world situations during duty and non-duty hours.
  • Other assigned duties as needed to support the customer.


  • Three to five years computer systems administration and hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software/hardware of servers, desktops, networks and related system experience is required.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field is preferred.
  • Office-based working environment and Occasional business travel required.
  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and communications skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of programs to include Adobe, Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Have the ability to address a wide variety of audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to execute on multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have the ability to deal with the customer and company employees in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
  • Must have the ability to work extended periods of times on a computer.  Must read, write, speak, and understand English.


Physical Demands:

This classification’s activities range from an office environment with extensive sitting demands to a field environment with extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching and walking demands.  May occasionally be required to lift objects whose weight exceeds 30 pounds.  Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment:

The diversity of work conditions may range from an office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort to a field environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc.  May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.  May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles and electrical shock hazards.  May be required to work a flexible work schedule and alternating work days to meet mission and customer requirements.


  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • CompTIA Security + certification
  • Security Certification IAW DoD 8570.01m
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret clearance.
