Systems Engineer-2

The Lead Engineer position will provide oversight to all aspects of the facility electrical System Engineering including scheduling, project review/oversight and management presentations. The Lead will be responsible for all low voltage, medium voltage, power system controls and elevator oversight. 

Essential Responsibilities:

Provide senior level Design Engineering and supervision input to a wide range of Low and Medium voltage electrical design, development, analysis or performance tasks. Coordinate System Engineering support to facility shops as needed for assigned systems. Provide senior level System Engineer mentoring for troubleshooting and technical expertise for electrical and elevator system anomalies as they arise. Provide direction to develop or revise company procedures and job plans to ensure compliance with all local NASA requirements/standards and all industry NFPA/ANSI/ASME/NEMA/OSHA standards/guidelines. Provide oversight and technical direction to Systems Engineering Preventive Maintenance program to include Job Plans, MAR (Maintenance Action Request) process, PM deferrals and asset specification requirements. Assign System Engineering ownership responsibilities based on expertise and work loading. Provide team lead role in applicable System Health and Readiness Program (SHARP) teams. Provide team leadership role in the Electrical Working Group (EWG) meetings. Provide senior level engineering support to the Focused on Infrastructure Issues, Risks & Mission Support (FIIRM) meetings Coordinate and work closely with requester, other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements. Provide System Engineering assignment and technical expertise for production of technical documentation and system specifications. Direct System Engineering participation with internal and external customers at all levels from concept to final design to commissioning activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications. Coordinate System engineering site visits, experimental investigations and engineering problem resolution on the electrical distribution system per Technical Anomaly Level (TAL) Guidelines. Provide senior level technical engineering presentations to the Engineering Review Board (ERB) showing anomaly root cause resolution as required. Provide senior level planning of flight support operations for System Engineering and facility shop support operations Coordinate System Engineer participation in task development requirements for NASA funded Task Orders. Supervise Operations & Maintenance Documentation (OMD) updates per specific, contracted timeframes. Ensure effective communications are maintained between System Engineering, Design Engineering, NASA, Safety and shop personnel by written or verbal means. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested by Management.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, or related electrical degree and 10+ years of job-related experience or equivalent.

Strong communications and analytical/troubleshooting skills.

Working experience with Microsoft Office software products including Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio. Microsoft Access, Project, Excel Programming and SQL programming experience are a plus.

Experience with either ETAP or Power Tools (SKM) software or competent knowledge of NFPA 70E requirements for Arc Flash study review.

Strong knowledge of Low Voltage Power distribution system design per NEC and maintenance requirements for industrial applications.

Strong knowledge of Medium Voltage (13.8KV) power distribution system design per NEC/NESC and maintenance requirements as a utility distribution entity.

Knowledge of low and medium voltage relaying/coordination.

Knowledge of elevator system codes and standards for operation and inspection.

Knowledge of operations and usage requirement for large facility Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) systems.

Knowledge and demonstrated use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to avoid working hazards.

Position may require travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

The positions involves work typical of office environment with occasional field work requirements. Typical work environment include: occasional lifting to 20 pounds, sitting with extended use of computer terminal, use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Some positions involve work in environments (e.g., outside locations, warehouses, launch environments, electrical/mechanical rooms, electrical switchyards, around generating equipment, etc.) where electrical and mechanical equipment are being installed, tested, analyzed/monitored, operated, and/or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy or have exposed moving components. Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required. The work environments may expose workers to the following hazards: Noise due to generating machines or operating mechanical equipment, electrical hazards, rotating machinery and working at heights
