WHE/MHE Certification Official

The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission is to provide Naval Warfare Centers, the Fleet, and other customers with accurate undersea, surface, and in-air three-dimensional tracking data and other unique Atlantic test facilities.  In support of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments.

Responsible for performing electrical/mechanical inspections, load testing of weight handling equipment and crane training per NAVFAC P-307 requirements on the AUTEC Project.


  • Maintain control of inspection records, manage the material deficiency reports and insures all are recorded per NAVFAC, NAVSEA and NAVAIR requirements.
  • Mechanical and electrical inspections of Cat 1, Cat 3 (non-cab overhead), Cat 4 cranes and various MHE and rigging equipment.
  • Operate cranes up to 130 ton.
  • Perform “Train the Trainer” training for AUTEC qualified crane operators. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or military equivalent.
  • Five (5) years technical experience with Cat 1, Cat 3 and Cat 4 cranes. 
  • Valid crane operator license preferred.
  • Master Electrician certification preferred.
  • NAVFAC General Crane Course preferred.
  • NAVFAC Crane Electrical Inspector Course preferred. NAVFAC Crane Mechanic Course preferred.
  • NAVFAC Rigging Gear Inspection Course preferred.
  • NAVFAC Load Test Director Course preferred. Train
  • The Trainer course preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License and passport will be required.
  • Master Electrician certification preferred.
  • This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
  • Valid Driver’s License and passport will be required.
